EPT Berlin 2011 – Hopefully Without The Crime This Time.
April 5th, 2011 is set to be another highlight in German live poker, hopefully this year for all the right reasons.
Most of you will remember last year. Four masked people stormed through the Grand Hotel Hyatt around 2:15 pm. Their sights were set on the prize money of the Main Event currently taking place. They created a media storm around the PokerStars.net EPT, albeit for all the wrong reasons. The event got coverage in ZDF’s “heute-journal” (German TV), but without the assault, reporting would have been highly unlikely.
The European Poker Tour made a big splash with its debut visit to Berlin in Season 6. A total of 945 players from 48 countries entered the €5,300 Main Event making it Germany’s biggest ever poker tournament and creating a total prize pool of €3,686,400.
The event was won by serial PokerStars qualifier Kevin “ImaLuckSac” MacPhee who snagged the record €1 million first prize after beating Finnish player Ilari Tahkokallio. As well as a long-awaited EPT champion’s title, MacPhee’s achievement also won him the Players’ Choice Award at the EPT Awards held at the Season 6 Grand Final in May.
Shamballa Jewels In addition to the prize money, the winner of this year’s event will also take home a custom designed bracelet from the Official Bracelet Sponsor of the EPT7 BERLIN, Danish-owned Jewellery Company Shamballa Jewels. Shamballa Jewels has existed since 2004 and is owned by the brothers Kornerup. The exclusive jewellery has been worn by Hollywood’s very biggest stars, and all sorts of VIPs around the world such as Jay-Z, Michael Jordan, Ashton Kutcher and many more. The jewellery symbolizes more than just an ornament, and caters for people who want to radiate individuality and exclusivity. Shamballa Jewels unique and exclusive jewellery is inspired by ancient traditions of Buddhism, meditation and yoga. The philosophy of Shamballa Jewels is to remind each of us the basics of human life such as love, compassion, empathy, ethics and tolerance, and to awaken the inner human harmony between body, mind and soul.
