Negreanu beats Isildur1 in Incredible Comeback In Superstar Showdown
Anybody who has been following the PokerStars SuperStar Showdown action between Daniel Negreanu and Viktor “Isildur1″ Blom knows that the first matchup went really badly for Negreanu. From the outset, it was clear that Negreanu was having trouble keeping up with multi-tabling four tables against one of the best heads-up players in the world. When it was all said and done, Negreanu lost his entire $150k stack after just 1,439 hands.
So how did the rematch go for Negreanu? Well things looked like a repeat of last week’s match early on as Isildur1 was up by $44,000 after 600 hands. Blom was running really good and hitting a lot of big hands in the early going, while Negreanu seemed to be struggling again.
After 925 poker hands, Blom pushed his lead out over $90,000, which left Negreanu with $60k. After 1,200 hands, it looked like another early night for Isildur1 as he was up on Negreanu by $109k. But this is when Negreanu mounted a comeback.
After 1,720 hands, Negreanu had whittled the lead down to just $16k. After 2,150 hands of play, Negreanu took the lead from Isildur1 and was up by almost $10k. From there it was back and forth as both players kept stealing the lead from each other. But within the last 50 hands of play, Negreanu was able to grab the lead and push it out to $26,500 by the end.
This completed an incredible comeback that saw Negreanu dig himself out of a $130k hole at one point to eventually win the rematch with Blom. After the game, Negreanu was ecstatic as he tweeted, “I won the rematch! Was down 130k then made a run and won 26,500 EV adjusted 55k. Wow I feel amazing right now. Isildur1 is awesome. So good.”
