Sorel Mizzi Faces New Cheating Accusations
Sorel Mizzi has been one of poker’s biggest enigmas since his meteoric rise to stardom began at the online poker tables. In that time Mizzi has been one of the best online poker tournament players –a skill set which he has continued to show-off on the live tournament trail—but he has also been faced with his fair share of controversy, including multi-accounting, taking over for players deep in tournaments, and even an allegation of setting up a program that would allow him to play numerous accounts in a single tournament.
The 2010 Bluff Magazine Player of the Year is now facing perhaps his most damning indictment, levied at him from 2010 WSOP runner-up John Racener via Shaun Deeb. Deeb posted on the 2+2 poker forum recounting a conversation between himself and John Racener, where Racener “catches” Mizzi dealing off the bottom of the deck while the two played a high-stakes session of Chinese Poker at the PCA.
Unlike his other transgressions, which lie somewhere in between unethical and cheating, this new charge is flat-out cheating! Deeb also spoke to Sorel regarding the incident, and after several hours passed received this reply:
“i dont really know what to say, he says that I dealt myself a joker from the bottom of the deck when I didn’t . People have done it b4 to me and they’ll do it again, seems like every 2 months I have to defend myself vs some sort of accusation with no proof and im rly sick of it. I’ve been accused of just about everything, pretty sure if u said I was responsible for the 9/11 attacks a certain % of people would beleive u. The reality of it is if u post these accusations on 2p2 the majority of ppl will believe you over me, youo can say anything, im wide open and completely vulnerable to being accused of anything shady and having people believe it”
At this time, neither Mizzi nor Racener have posted in the thread, which has grown to 20 pages already! Deeb has talked to Racener since posting the story, and has stated that Racener will eventually post his side of the story and thoughts on what went down. It has also come to light in the thread that James “Flushy” Dempsey lost some $88k to Mizzi playing Chinese Poker at the PCA in a companion thread on the Blonde Poker forum: Get your popcorn ready this could be a wild one!
