Jonathan Duhamels Tournament Streak Continues

After winning the World Series of Poker, a small final table you may have heard about last November, Team PokerStars Pro Jonathan Duhamel could be forgiven for taking things a little easy, perhaps planning what to do with the $8,944,138 first place prize money. That sum was enough to set him in up in major live poker tournaments for life, and he’s already been putting it to good use.

Since his big Vegas payday, the Canadian has hardly been home, preferring to head back on the circuit. The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) did not yield any success, so the next stop was Deauville in France for the European Poker Tour (EPT). Although Duhamel failed to score in the main event, he went on to win the €10,000 High Roller. That means another €203,232 is heading toward Duhamel’s bank account.

The EPT stop in Northern France is one of the tour’s most popular events, with the best players in Europe and beyond gathering in the exclusive seaside town to do battle. The main event attracted a massive 891 players, with Lucien Cohen scooping the title and €880,000 in cash. It was the High Roller that attracted the big names though, each looking to turn a €10,000 investment into something much bigger.
A total of 58 players entered the tournament that played out over two days, and Duhamel brought his A-game. He progressed through the field to make the final table, and then the heads-up finale. There, he beat French player Alain Confino, with a final hand that had short-stacked Confino going all-in with A-J but coming up against the world champ’s perfectly timed A-K.

Swedish pro Martin Jacobson, who finished runner-up in the main event just a few hours earlier, followed Duhamel’s progress closely and said: “I’m so happy right now. I love poker!” It’s easy to understand why Duhamel is well-liked. He’s getting good results, but it’s no lucky streak. This is a player who served his apprenticeship online, diligently developing his game, and everything he banks from now on is richly deserved.

The win takes Duhamel’s lifetime tournament career winnings to nearly $9.5 million – not bad for an online cash player. He’s the second-highest Canadian earner behind a certain Daniel Negreanu, and he’s now 15th on the All-Time Money List. The numbers don’t lie, and this recent victory keeps things bubbling along nicely.

The sky really is the limit now for the young man from Canada. Thanks to his sponsorship deal with the world’s largest poker site, Duhamel will never be short of an invite to a glittering live poker tournament. It is now clear that he’s got the skills to cut it at the very highest level, and no one will bet against him adding more titles to his already impressive resume.
