Baldwin Signs 2-Year Extension with UB Poker
It’s been a tumultuous period for the sponsored poker players at UB Poker in recent months, with some small changes like the addition of Maria Ho and the losses of Billy Kopp, Michael Binger and Matt Graham; as well as the earth-shaking upheaval with Annie Duke and Phil Hellmuth parting ways with UB Poker, followed by the signing of Prahlad Friedman.
With all of that going on some of the other UB Poker pros were sort of lost in the shuffle, including 2009 Card Player magazine Player of the Year Eric “basebaldy” Baldwin. But news of Baldwin signing a 2-year extension with UB Poker shows that Baldwin will be an integral part of the company’s plans moving forward –and without the looming shadow of Duke and Hellmuth will likely be featured far more prominently.
In a statement after the extension was announced Baldwin told www.PokerNewsDaily.com about his motivation with helping further the UB Poker brand: “I’m looking forward to helping improve the software a bit and making it a better experience for players. I’m also looking forward to having more hands-on interaction with players… From a game play standpoint, we’re second to none. Our tournaments structures are excellent and there is a ton of play from the beginning to the end of most events. Look at the success of the recent UBOCs. People have come out in huge numbers.”
Baldwin also spoke about the signing the Prahlad Friedman, and echoed Joe Sebok’s thoughts from late-December that his signing will likely pave the way for more additions: “I’m really excited to have him on board. It means the brand is gaining strength to be able to attract a player of his caliber. We’re only going to attract more of the same, which should result in some exciting games on the client. We have a tremendous amount of respect for him.”
So, with these subtle hints at more poker pros being brought on board by two UB Poker pros, it seems to be almost a guarantee that we haven’t heard the last of UB Poker on the sponsorship in 2011! As Baldwin himself told PND: “I would definitely look for us to expand, continue to add some exciting names, and really strengthen that core team.”
Which leads me to look at the following group of free-agents in the poker world: Is Phil Galfond, Tom Marchese, Daniel Cates, or Sam Trickett going to be the next UB Poker sponsored pro?
